Is crawling through dungeons in Dungeons and Dragons too boring for you? Roll on this chart instead to find out how well your group does. Squeeze hours of play into a handful of dice rolls so you can get back to the fun of buying items in town whilst making silly voices.

Roll D100 + total party level – dungeon level

Hirelings count as ½ level.

For example a party of 4 level 1 characters with 2 hirelings exploring the 2nd level of a dungeon would roll d100+3. (5 Total Party Level – 2 for the level of the dungeon.)

For each ‘boon’ the party has add +5.

Boons include a map to the dungeon, a guide who knows the dungeon layout, a weapon or spell particularly effective against the dungeon denizens for example a Cleric with Turn Undead in an undead infested dungeon or silver in a werewolf dungeon.

For each ‘significant’ danger on a dungeon level -5 to the roll.

Significant dangers include extra powerful monsters such as dragons, monsters the party have no tools to deal with such as a banshee when the party have only mundane items, instant death traps such as lava pits or areas particular dense with monsters such as those containing 30-300 orcs.

Additionally if it’s deemed a party does not have enough resources such as torches to clear the dungeon level they suffer a -5 penalty.
